The Humanist Foundation of Québec (FHQ) and the Humanist Association of Québec (AHQ)presented the Humanist Award 2013 to the Quebec Association for the Right to Die in Dignity (AQDMD). The AQDMD is the first recipient of this award, created this year and consisting of a $ 5,000 grant. The World Federation congratulates AQDMD and its President Hélène Bolduc with this prize and is proud of having AQDMD in its membership.

A judge dismissed all charges against former Final Exit Network president Ted Goodwin, who was charged last year with ‘advising, encouraging or assisting’ in the ‘suicide’ of a member. Doreen Dunn, 57, exited in 2007. Goodwin was not involved in Dunn’s self-deliverance. He was charged with a felony and a misdemeanour solely because he was president of Final Exit Network at the time.

“A Good Death” – a Dutch film with English subtitles – about an euthanasia will be screened in Toronto this and next week. The film is made on the basis of an award winning Dutch play and has met a lot of praise already in Amsterdam, Montreal and other locations around the world. Screening details:
Unofficial mentions on the 2012 statistics of Euthanasia cases in Belgium indicate that in that year 1432 cases were officially reported to the Federal Control Commission. This implies an increase of over 25% since 2011 (1132 cases). The official report, in which further breakdown of the figures will be represented, will appear later this year.
